Shattering is an alternative indie rock band based in Burlington,
Vermont. Their name—inspired by Elena Ferrante’s concept of
dismantling and rebuilding the self—reflects the introspective and
experimental ethos of the group, which includes collaborators from
both the visual art and academic worlds. Their sound blends the hazytextures of classic shoegaze with unexpected influences like Neil Diamond and Mort Garson, creating a sonic palette that’s both
nostalgic and forward-thinking. Lyrically, Shattering explores such
themes as the emotional intricacies of mature relationships or the
dissonance of navigating a politically divided world.
